Flora McLean DESIGNER, MAKER & LECTURER. Material research-based accessories and millinery specialist. Global outlook underpinned by 20 years teaching and professional design experience.
Flora is the lead designer of fashion label House of Flora. Inspired by Claude Montana, Pierre Cardin and André Courreges, McLean undertook an MA in Fashion Womenswear at the Royal College of Art. McLean’s legendary PVC beret (worn by Beyoncé) was exhibited in The Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the exhibition Anthology of Hats, 2009. McLean won the Jerwood contemporary makers Prize in 2010.
Flora runs the London studio making bespoke avant garde collectables and custom headpieces, costume and props for stage and editorials as well as collaborations with fashion houses and musical artists. Alongside her studio practice she is currently senior fashion tutor in Footwear, Fashion Accessories and Millinery at The Royal College of Art and guest technical surgeon and lecturer at the Architectural Association in London.
Flora lives and works from her studio in London. Her skills are in hat construction, accessories fabrication, moulding plastic, public speaking, drawing, styling, making, direction, writing. She has expert knowledge: materials, plastics, composites, screen printing and letterpress.
